I was honored to be one of 30 artists nationwide selected for inclusion in the 100th anniversary issue of "Who's Who in America" (Biographical profile: 2002, 56th Ed., Vol. 1, Pg. 2500).     The culminating recognition for my paintings came lasts year...competing against a field of artists representing 215 nations and territories, judged for both individual style and sustained achievement in the visual arts field, the Marquis Editors and their international board elected me as one of 40 artists worldwide for inclusion in the 21st. Ed. of "Who's Who in the World"  (Biographical profile: 2003, 21st Ed., Pg. 1088). (Full biograpy-www.marquiswhoswho.com).

Born by the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia, son of a career Naval Warrant Officer, sailing and the sea have always been part of my life...and a major influence on my art.  Long isolation on a small sailing vessel magnifies the visual impact of reaching a distant port.  Color,  light,  flora, structures and people are defined with a clarity that is lost in jet travel.  The majority of my nautical paintings are visualized from viewpoint and activities seen only by sailors.  These images are permanently etched in my memory and my paintings are personal interpretations of these stimuli.

I have been a professional artist the majority of my adult life.  Starting out as a part time sports illustrator for our local newspaper as a high-school sophomore and helping pay my way through college undergraduate school as an advertising artist.  After serving in the Army, I was a commercial designer in the electronic industry for 6 years, eventually starting my own small firm.  In mid career, I  was appointed Art/Production Editor of the Air Force's "The Navigator" magazine, a position I held for 16 years.  For a brief  period, I was an  Art/Journalism Instructor at CSUS before completing my last 10 years of my commercial career as a syndicated daily newspaper cartoonist and writer for "Adventure Features" and "American International" Syndicates.

In 1997,  I could finally devote my full concentration to fine art and return, after a long absence, to oil painting. In my first year of competition, 19 separate oil paintings were accepted in 17 individual juried shows.  My paintings have won numerous  national and international, as well as, regional awards. Becoming only the 25th artist in 60 years to be awarded Master Painter status by Northern California Arts, Inc. (NCA) is an achievement of which I am singularly proud.

Additional data:  Born 1931.  Married over 60 years (2 sons).  Charter Skipper/Sail Master. Former Infantry Major.  Bicyclist and runner.
